"There is something about digging an image out of blackness rather than superimposing an image onto a surface. Perhaps it is reminiscent of the hours spent in my father's darkroom developing family photograph's, seeing the light on my face reverse in negative for the first time."

 
  Harriet Yale Russell was born and raised in Rochester, New York. She attended Colby Sawyer College, Boston Museum School and earned her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1992. She has been painting and drawing in New Mexicosince 1995 and was representated at Coleman Gallery in Albuquerque. She received the Curator's Choice Award in the Biennial Southwest exhibition at the Albuquerque Museum in 2008 and was recently selected for a two-person show at the Las Cruces Museum of Art for summer 2012.
